WHEN IT’S MORE THAN JUST A WISH!

Everyone has resolutions, hopes, dreams, and wishes for health and happiness. From personal to professional, we vow to make our lives and others better with each one we make. But for some, it is so much more than just a wish when what you desire is necessary to sustain your own life.

Kidney

WISHES CAN COME TRUE!

After nearly three years, Chris's wish was answered this past Christmas when a donor called and informed him that she would be donating a kidney, and that the surgery date had already been set for February 27, 2014.

On Friday, February 14th, Chris’s Kidney Connection will present a Pasta Dinner/Dance at the Regal Room in Olyphant, Pennsylvania.  This event – organized  by family and friends of Dickson City residents Christopher M. Polk and his donor Megan Allman is being put on to raise much needed funds for  medical expenses related to Chris’ kidney transplant as well as raise awareness for organ donation. The event, which runs from 5:00pm to 9:00pm, will feature a sit down pasta dinner, salad, dessert, coffee and tea. Other offerings are a basket raffle, 50/50, wheelbarrow of cheer raffle and a cash bar along with Live Music for your listening and dancing pleasure.   This event is open to the public, with all proceeds benefiting Chris’s Kidney Connection. Takeout is available from 5 to 6 with dinner served from 5 to 7.

Tickets for the event are $15 in advance and can be ordered by calling
Joanne 570-815-2892 or Jean 570-780-6370.

Kidney

Who is Chris Polk?

At only 23 years old, Christopher M. Polk of Dickson City, PA was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Failure in March of 2011, and for the past two years he undergoes 4 hour dialysis treatments three times a week in order to keep him alive. He only has one wish - a NEW KIDNEY, hopefully from a living donor. Chris is a 2007 graduate of Mid-Valley High and attended Luzerne County Community College before his illness changed his plans. He is currently an assistant scout leader with BSA Troop 322 in Dickson City where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Chris works as a home theater specialist for HH Gregg, with his work schedule needing to be cut to part time hours because of treatment schedules and overall health. Chris tires quickly and regulating his blood pressure is another issue. Chris thought his wish was fulfilled last June when he received a call that there was a donor who was a tissue match, but after 7 long months of ups and downs with the donor, Chris’ world crashed again as the donor backed out just 2 days before the scheduled surgery.
